"I also hate the ambiance. The place is all hard surfaces and bags of potatoes. With the loud music, it is an uncomfortable place to eat. Been there twice, and I’m done."

So far most of the feedback has been five guys prices are to high for the quality of the burgers and their ambiance was sort of expected, it's kinda old diner feel was ok, but it's better suited for a drive thru joint as suppose to a sit down "burger restaurant".

I think their burgers are quite good, but definitely overpriced. Order a burger, fires and drink, and you are out $10 even if you order the small (single patty) burger.

The quality isn't as good as In-N-Out, for sure. Fries are decent, but not good enough for me to eat the whole order (which is huge!) The peanuts are a gimmick, I guess designed to quell the appetites of people who require enormous amounts of food for their ten bucks. I also hate the ambiance. The place is all hard surfaces and bags of potatoes. With the loud music, it is an uncomfortable place to eat. Been there twice, and I'm done.

Total: OK, but disappointing, given the hype.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I guess we can agree that at the end of the day we are only talking about hamburgers :) I think 5 guys prices are a bit high for a burger that i can get at Burger King. My main problem with restaurants of any kind is the glorified marketing and "best of" awards that are posted up all over their restaurant. Maybe its me but i tend to critique harder if you claim you make the "best" of anything.

I disagree. I went to Flea Market last month after a long absence. The burger was a far cry from my memories of how good they were back in the day. Maybe it was a one-time bad outing. But the burger at Five Guys is much better. And the fries at Five Guys are the best I ever have had (I just wish they would lower the price and not give you so many).

Five Guys started out in DC where a reasonably priced burger that is not a chain "quickie" is hard to find. Moving from a small town in the Midwest with GREAT local cafe food, Five Guys didn't outdo, but, to be fair, it was pretty decent. And for the price-queen above, 38 years ago, a burger like Five Guys makes in larger cities on the East Coast cost $5.00 or more. All things considered, Five Guys will have a hard time competing anywhere in the Midwest!

Looks like the food is on par with Humdingers on 9th and Prospect.

You did fail to mention their out-of-this-world pricing on their burgers.

Flea Market is good and I've heard that Blanc + bottles is also very good.

The problem that these high-falutin' burgers places have is that quality is relative and in the end, it's a frikkin' hamburger.

It's not a delicacy or nouveau and it's not hard to do it yourself at home. It's also not that hard to find a burger that's just as good or better at the billions of other burger joints on the planet.

They're not doing anything that is special or unique except for their prices.
