First i would like to say that I'm a professional photojournalist and i would never knowingly wear Cowboys gear out to the Chiefs while on the job. Having said that today i was sent, for only the 2nd time all season, cause we are short photographers during the holidays and i just so happened to be wearing my cowboys gear. Normally i keep a change of clothes in my news vehicle, but they are in the wash. :)

Listen on posterous

NextGenMedia Podcast caught up with MO State Senator Jolie Justus at Eddie Delahunt's Coffee, where she was doin something very odd, actually sitting down and talking face to face with constituents. :) While Senator Justus is an early adopter of NextGen/Social Media to communicate with constituents she can be found weekly doing her coffee sitdowns and kicking it analog on most Fridays.

I took the oppurtunity to sitdown and talk to Senator Justus about NextGenMedia and how she has used it during your first term representing MO's 10th Senate District.

A special thanks to Blue Microphones for producing the "Mikey" which makes it possible to record these podcasts directly on my iPhone.

Could social/nextgen media of saved 100 local jobs?

This past summer two former employees of Mi Ranchito Mexican restaurant, in Lenexa KS, were charged with poisoning a batch a salsa causing a couple of dozen people to get sick. The restaurant would eventually be closed for an entire month. With the shut down the owner, who owns 5 other Mi Ranchito resaurants, had to layoff 100 workers.

My question is, in this case could social/nextgen media of helped save these 100 jobs? A recent report says that word of mouth is still number one in business. But i can’t help thinking had Mi Ranchito had a social/nextgen media strategy they could of played a larger role in getting the truth out about what happened and fueled that word of mouth PR that might of saved some jobs.

Yesterday Jeff Winkel, a casual patron of the restaurant, tried to get the word out and bring those 100 jobs back and he’s doin it the old fashion way. I had a short chat with him here’s what he had to say.

Five Guys Burger and Fries – Quick take with pics.

Excuse the repost. I’m trying out Posterous and the last post i sent from my iphone didn’t include the pics. If it doesn’t work this time I’ll just move on.

My quick take is I was unimpressed. They have great marketing and Pr for a slightly better than average burger. When your entire decor is about how great your burgers and fries are, well that’s just a lot hype to live up to, and they didn’t.

So burger and fries were good not great and in the words of the 80′s
rap group Public Enemy “DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE”

Best burgers in town? It’s a toss up between Westport flea market and Max’s on wornall.

From Commentor Bob: I think their burgers are quite good, but definitely overpriced. Order a burger, fires and drink, and you are out $10 even if you order the small (single patty) burger.

The quality isn’t as good as In-N-Out, for sure. Fries are decent, but not good enough for me to eat the whole order (which is huge!) The peanuts are a gimmick, I guess designed to quell the appetites of people who require enormous amounts of food for their ten bucks. I also hate the ambiance. The place is all hard surfaces and bags of potatoes. With the loud music, it is an uncomfortable place to eat. Been there twice, and I’m done.

Total: OK, but disappointing, given the hype.
